Research Interests : I am interested in the application of cognitive-behavioral/developmental therapy to a wide variety of psychological disorders with adults. I am interested in hypnosis and hypnotherapy and its integration into CBT. I have an ongoing investigation into the effect of individual differences in psychological reactance on the therapy process. I am currently investigating memory processes and tacit knowledge structures (including tacit cultural assumptions) in psychological functioning and malfunctioning.

Mary ODowd received a doctorate from National University of Ireland, Dublin in 1979. She was appointed lecturer in the School of Modern History at Queens in 1978 (senior lecturer since 1992). Her research interests and publications have concentrated on early modern Ireland.
She is currently completing a book on women in early modern Ireland, 1500-1800 and is one of the editors of the forthcoming Field Day Anthology (vols IV and IV) Irish Women?s Writing and Traditions to be published by Cork University Press in 2002. Dr O?Dowd was appointed President of the International Federation for Research in Women?s History in August 2000.

From 1977 to 1983 we lived in Alice Springs. Until June 1997 we lived in Darwin, in Australias Northern Territory, in the suburb of Nightcliff (Map). We moved to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1998.
Both Glenda and Bernie were born in the state of Victoria; she in Geelong , Bernie in Bendigo. (Glenda lived most of her childhood in Portland, and Bernie lived first in Toolleen then Ararat) All of our children were born in the Northern Territory.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - "Essence magazine hired, fired and inspired me," Maria recalls with a smile. What comes to her mind is that fateful day back in 1989. The magazine had contracted her as one of the on-site coordinators of its Cover Model Search mall tour. A few months later, due to budget cuts, her contract was terminated. "Despite the reason, to have your first and only client - the icon of Black womans everything - terminate your services can really make you question the meaning of life," Maria quips. She was 30 at the time. The loss of this client happened just a few short months after shed resigned from her account manager job with a shopping mall promotions company to start her own company, PROMOTrends.
