In 1939 the late Mary Dowd donated the funds to build a Catholic Chapel,
which would be named in the memory of her family. Construction began on the Dowd Memorial Chapel of the Immaculate Conception in 1939, and was completed in 1941. | |
The Chapels architecture is based upon a rural English Gothic chapel with Indiana Bedford limestone walls.
The Gothic form was chosen because of its unparalleled use of space, light, color and artistic
workmanship to lift the human spirit to God.
The main chapel seats nearly 700 in pews carved from select oak.
